A New Thing

Believers are always so quick to quote popular Scripture. Certain ones are said and like alarm clocks set to go off at just the right time, we shout them down with our “Amens” & “Yes Lords”…but are we really being real? Are we really taking notice of the Word of God? The things we shout about, recite, and pray for.

In Isaiah 43:19, God speaks through the prophet saying, Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

We want new things to be done through us. We dream about them & confess the right Scriptures that’ll bring them towards our grasp. And if we’re in the mood when our favorite preacher gets on a roll about new things, we’ll leap from our seats in a rush of anticipation.

But what happens when God steps in to begin His process of preparation, & pruning, & rearranging? I’ll tell you what…. We quickly search, not only for a seat, but for a hiding place. The shouting stops, the boldness wanes, and the discomfort that always comes from the pursuit of new seeps in.But the thing is, this isn’t even about our prayers. It’s about God fulfilling His word. He’s looking for Believers willing to allow Him to do a new thing through.

We’re living in the most idolatrous time ever known to man. Everywhere we see, the media is suggesting someone or something else to idolize. Everybody wants to sound like, look like, be like, or live like somebody else. So we shave off any newness God’s trying to cultivate in our effort to imitate. And in doing so we stifle our witness to the glory of God.

We have children, nieces, nephews, neighbors and nations to lead out of states of hypnotized depression, disease & defeat and we’ll never succeed with old religious methods. There’s a move of God happening right now that’s so pristinely new, to call it fresh would be blasphemy. He’s pouring out the anointing of His wisdom; the genius of His creativity; the vigor of His health; and the majesty of His riches.

Old wineskins will never hold new wine. Get in the presence of His Word and let Him transform you. Understand the transformation of your self by the Spirit of His Word IS the new thing God so hungers to do in the earth. And instead of fearing when you find yourself being shaped all alone, celebrate. Shout Hallelujah to Hosanna the King and trust God’s making you into a new thing.
